Ive ridden <a href="http://homepage.mac.com/ogikubo/PhotoAlbum81.html">Tamako Cycling Road</a> in the west of Tokyo, and its good for the weekend ride. Start at <a href="http://www.mapion.co.jp/c/f?uc=1&grp=all&nl=35/41/54.042&el=139/32/47.225&scl=250000&bid=Mlink">Musasisakai Station</a>, JR chuo line, and soon reach at starting point of the cycling road. There are many foot passengers and joggers, but no cars and no motorbikes.

Once entering <a href="http://www.mapion.co.jp/c/f?uc=1&grp=all&nl=35/45/20.359&el=139/26/35.013&scl=250000&bid=Mlink">the lakeside of Tamako</a>, you can go the circuit of it without a stop. Some roadies came here to do the exercises. This area formed the setting of the movie "<a href="http://mehveghibli.thibros.com/totoro/index.html">My Neighbor Totoro</a>". Still there is unspoiled nature today, though its not quite the same as the movie.

Also there is the interested restaurant "<a href="http://www9.ocn.ne.jp/~toriyama/">Toriyama</a>". They provide the wild bird cooking in the Japanese traditional outbuildings. Of course there are normal dishes as well. You dont necessarily have to eat eccentric ones such as sparrows and quails.

Its less than 40 kilometers there and back, beginning and ending at Musashisakai Station. There are some gentle slopes en route but no awful climbs.

If you are interested in that, please make a comment on this article. Lets meet each other and ride!

That looks nice, but exactly where is it? What line is that station on?

David,

Musashisakai station is on JR Chuo Line. It takes about 30 min. from Shinjuku Station.

map:
<A Href="http://www.mapion.co.jp/c/f?uc=1&grp=all&nl=35/41/54.042&el=139/32/47.225&scl=250000&bid=Mlink" target="_blank">http://www.mapion.co.jp/c/f?uc=1&grp=all&nl=35/41/54.042&el=139/32/47.225&scl=250000&bid=Mlink</A>

If you like to get there riding your bike, it is about 17 km between Shinjuku and Musashisakai.

Tamako is on the north west of Tokyo.

If it's OK, let's assign a day!

Hi, My name is Min and I am a student in Tokyo. I am looking for people to ride with as well. Tamako seems a little too short for me considering the hassle of getting out there. I will check this message board regularly to see if any of you are interested in longer rides. Ciao.

Hello Min,

Thanks for your interest. Our colleague Watanabe seems to think of a longer ride - also do I. I recommend "Register" and "Subscribe" this forum. Then, you can read new messages by E mail!
