Cycling on Noto Peninsula

Postby guest » 2007年Jan月01日(Mon) 02:00

Hello everybody
We'd like to cycle on Noto Peninsula (from Kanazawa) for about 5 days next April. We still don't know if it's possible to rent bicyles and equipment and what itinerary to take. Has somebody done that before and can tell us about their experiences? Thank you, Sandra

First, please refer the following page.

Second, it is hard to find a good touring bike rental shop in Japan.
So I recommend you take your own bike to Japan.

Third, it's depends on your cycle experience whether you are able to take the itinerary (5 days) or not. How is your cycle tour experience?

I'm in Kanazawa and have been here for about 20 years...! Where are you?

You might try to find info/maps/routing for the Tour de Noto--a yearly three day event in late September. It departs Kanazawa and arrives back three days later--I think this year's schedule will be 9/22-9/24. Lots of road bikers on that, so what they do in three days might better be done in 5-6. Maybe you could go Kanazawa-Togi on the first day (about 80-85km) and then slow down to take in the scenery. Next night in Wajima, the nite after in Anamizu or Ushitsu, then down and onto Noto-jima for the next night and then back to KZ (again, around 85km from there).

There's a "yu-ryo-sen" from Uchinada to Noto, a toll road for cars, and there's a bike path that follows it out of Kanazawa up towards Noto, but it's sanded over in quite a few places--deep sand has blown in, which I'd never want to deal with. (The tour de noto doesn't use it.) I'd try to get up to the peninsula in a day on normal roads, and once you're there there are plenty of nice roads criss-crossing every which-way.

There are quite a few little-used campgrounds, also many minshuku (what I'd opt for). Email me if you want.
