Cycling from Fukuoka to Tokyo

Postby Jungsoo » 2010年Oct月29日(Fri) 17:57

Hi...
I'm planning bibyble tour from Fukuoka to Tokyo at the end of Nov.
I saw the course map of "Length of Japan" but the problem is that I have only 12~13 days.
The distance seems little bit long for 12 days.
I'm going to bring my road bicycle to Japan and sleep in my tent.
I need advices about shorter and beautiful route (around 1200~1500km).

Hi Jungsoo.

Generally speaking, using major national road is the shortest route in Japan.
For example if you will start riding on route 3 from Fukuoka, route 2 from Shimonoseki and route 1from Osaka, that will be probably the shortest route from Fukuoka to Tokyo.
But unfortunately these major national roads are not suitable for cycling at all because of too many cars and trucks etc.

So I think it may be better for you to spend some days intensively for riding in a pecific area where you are interested in and to use a highway bus with your packed bike for passing through other uncomfortable area.

I hope you will enjoy touring in Japan.

Best regards.

Thanks very much about your advice.
I changed my mind to shorten my course (from Osaka not Fukuoka to Tokyo).
And I'm going to follow the route of "Length of Japan"
