how to map out a short and easy route around Kyoto?

Postby guest » 2006年Sep月10日(Sun) 23:23

I am planning my first cycling trip in Japan and looking for a easy and relax route which could let me enjoy beautiful scenes in Kyoto. However, I just got 3 days and then I need to go to Tokyo for business. It would be appreciated if you guys could give me some advice. Thank you !

Hello Nicola,

These are rough informations;

1. The route along the east side of Lake Biwa is comfortable for biking. It's not difficult to ride to Maibara from Kyoto within a day. You can take Shiniansen at Maibara station.

2. There is a good cycling road between Kyoto and Nara. See the section "Route Map for May 12" of our "Expo Ride Guide 2.0".

3. If you don't mind hilly roads, Miyama town is considerable. Miyama is known for beautiful roofing with thatch.

R162 is not bad. Local road 38 is very scenic but also really hilly. Or, local road 50 that we introduced in "Route Map for May 11" is also good. That route passes through famous Hozukyou canyon.
